Bareboat Sailing on the Beautiful Chesapeake Bay!

Aurora is berthed at the Granary Marina of the Georgetown Yacht Basin.  This is on the beautiful Sassafras River on Maryland's Eastern Shore, approximately 35 miles Southwest of Wilmington, Delaware.  This ideal location is less than 2 hours drive from Philadelphia, Baltimore or Washington, DC.  The Granary Marina is on George Street, on the North side of the drawbridge crossing the river.  The Georgetown Yacht Basin main yard is on the South side.

The Granary Marina has an award winning restaurant, the Granary.  Marina amenities include air conditioned and immaculate heads and showers, laundry facilities, and a pool.  There is a ship's store at GYB, and another at Sassafras Harbour just down the street.  The Sassafras Grill is also nearby for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and there is a market in Galena, about 2 miles.  Galena also boasts a pharmacy, several restaurants and numerous antique shops for browsing.

The Sassafras River leads to the Upper Chesapeake Bay, the river itself banked by high bluffs and trees.  It's a lovely boating area, with lots of gunkholes and sights to see.  Eagles, herons and cormorants live here, as well as the migratory geese and ducks.  Fishing is very good, and Aurora also has a fishing permit for the bay.  Bring your favorite fishing gear!

DIRECTIONS:

From New York and New Jersey:
Take the New Jersey Turnpike South to the very end, cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge into Delaware. When you come out of the bridge tolls follow the signs to 13 South, Dover. Stay on 13 and it will eventually merge onto Delaware 1 South.

Then:
**You will cross the canal and go through a toll, then take the first exit after the toll (896/301). Turn right at the top of the ramp, then go straight through the light. Continue straight through the next 2 lights onto MD 310, go past the racehorse farms to the light at MD 213 (about 10 miles). Turn left at this light onto 213 South. Go across the Bohemia River bridge, through the light in Cecilton and turn right just before the next drawbridge onto George Street in Georgetown. The Granary Marina is at the end of the street.

From Pennsylvania:
Take 95 South to Delaware, follow the 495 bypass around Wilmington, pick up 95 South again to exit 4, Christiana Mall Road (7). Follow 7 South past the mall and it will merge into Delaware 1 South. Then follow the same directions as from ** above.

From Washington, DC:
Take Route 50 East. Cross the Annapolis Bay Bridge and continue on 50/301 to the split, then follow 301 North. Stay on 301 until mile marker 115 (yellow blinker), then turn left onto MD 313. Stay straight at the light in Galena which then becomes MD 213. Cross the drawbridge and turn left immediately onto George Street in Georgetown. The Granary Marina is at the end of the street.
